CANON

canon: The Lady of the Camellias (ballet by John Neumeier, based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas Fils)
summary: Here.
quick rundown: After having run away from home outside Paris at a young age, the tuberculosis-suffering Marguerite Gautier creates a life for herself in France's capital as a demimondaine, a courtesan who offers her company and services to men for money and soon becomes the most celebrated of her kind. Seemingly content with this empty and superficial lifestyle, she eventually meets Armand Duval, a lawyer, and they fall in love with each other, although Marguerite warns him that loving her will require many sacrifices of his character. As he makes more and more demands of her to leave her demimondaine practices behind, she begins realizing the depth of her own feelings for him and eventually, they elope to a country house in Bougival together and enjoy a blessed summer there. However, Armand's father is not satisfied with his son's choice of partner and shows up to have a chat with Marguerite. His pleas to make her give Armand up are successful and she agrees, for the sake of Armand's little sister and her prospects at marriage. She informs Armand by letter that she has returned to her old life, because he couldn't meet her needs. As she gets increasingly sicker, Armand tries to get revenge on her by initiating a relationship with one of her good friends, another courtesan by the name of Olympe. They frequent the same places, so Marguerite has to watch as he behaves at his absolute worst with Olympe and finally, she can't take it anymore, she comes to him and begs him stop for her sake, but it only ends with them sharing a passionate night that she flees from before dawn has broken. Heartbroken, Armand decides to leave Paris. Marguerite, on the other hand, can't go anywhere - she is dying and writing letters to Armand that will never find him in time, she tells the story of her last weeks alive. In the end, she dies alone.
canon point: Defaulting to early timeline, before she and Armand have gotten together for cross-canon, but will play from any point in the story with potential canon-mates or interested parties.

contact: PM to this journal. I accept plurk requests at [plurk.com profile] thewriteway.
active times/pace: CEST/CET player. Tries to be online at least during the evening my time, but it varies. More one tag a day player than anything, but if you hit me up at the right time, I can still boomerang a bit.
brackets/prose: Definitely brackets preference, but will match. I default to present tense, but can also match other tenses.
offensive subjects/triggers: Not any.

IN CHARACTER

physical affection: Go for it. Reactions may vary depending on CR, but for the most part she'll be a good sport about it.
physical violence: I'd prefer not.
relationships: F/M or F/F, though I'd like to discuss F/F beforehand, whereas F/M is kind of the default with her.
psychic info: She has no mental barriers and will be an easy read. Ask if you need more info.
magical info: No magical powers.
medical info: She suffers from and eventually dies of tuberculosis.
offensive subjects/triggers: If terminal illness or illness in general is a trigger for you - same goes for a romanticized portrayal of sex work, please avoid and feel free to let me know, so I can avoid tagging you.

backtagging: Yes, please!
threadhopping: No.
fourthwalling: Go ahead.
not interested in: Smut, neither M/F or F/F.

Marguerite Gautier.

Quote, unquote.

We have selfish lovers who spend their fortunes not on us, as they say, but on their own vanity. With men like that, we have to be light-hearted when they are joyful, in fine fettle when they want to have supper, in a skeptical mood when they are. We're forbidden to have any feelings of our own, on pain of being jeered at and having our credit ruined. We no longer belong to ourselves. We are not beings, but things.
